Overseas Market
Last year, some 4.2 million travelers from the United Kingdom visited the United States , spending more than $13.3 billion, or $3,200 per person, and a 23% increase in U.K. arrivals is projected by 2011. Two thirds of the U.K. visitors came to the U.S. on vacation and one third used a travel agency as an information source to plan the trip. World Travel Market 2008 visitors increased by 12%, unaudited figures have revealed. Total participants were an unprecedented 50,171, an increase of 4%. Trade delegate attendance went up to 26,422, compared to 23,722 in 2007. There was also a 4% increase in the number of exhibiting companies to 5,631. There were 20 new exhibitors in World Travel Market’s UK and Ireland area, up by nearly 4%. The number of exhibitors from the Middle East and the Americas were also up. Overall, there were nearly 100 new exhibitors.
